Artist Bio:I am a freelance artist, a historical costuming hobbyist, and an amateur historian in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I recieved a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2024 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I would consider myself an Austenite, my top 3 novels are Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Pride and Prejudice (in that order). When it comes to classics, my favorites are Dracula, Wuthering Heights, and Frankenstein– I have a particular deference to 19th century Gothic Literature. I love to go to museums, my primary resources are typically procured during museum trips, and if not then from online museum collections and archives. I have recently been enjoying reading through Tidewater history records at my local library. I cannot stop myself from knitting or sewing whenever I have an ounce of free time. I have three cats, all of them are tabby cats.
Artist Statement:My practice is intensely focussed on process and craftsmanship. I often prefer to sew by hand, emphasizing the methodical ritual and rhythm of stitching. While I occasionally endeavor to create sculpture, I often find my way back to fiber and textile arts, always desiring to craft a body of soft work.In my free time, I work on simpler pieces. I am a historical costuming hobbyist, and an involved member of the Chicago Historical Costuming Society. I am endlessly inspired by historical pieces, and I often use inspiration from history as a backboard for my work. I take away as much as I can from folk pieces, and find most of my inspiration from early colonial American folk art, and the expression of a representational eye and instinctual hand to create expansive works.I use my work as a method to promote healing. As someone who is self respecting and at times overly reflective, dedicated and honest to a fault, my work is the mirror of that, sometimes dark and moody, but by and large, delicate and soft.
